Shepherding a Child's Heart M
by Tedd Tripp
Wow. Quite a book. One of the most packed, Biblically-based, will-have-to-read-it-again-and-again books I've ever read.
As I finished this within days of the birth of our first child, much of is changed and refined my thinking in preparation for our child(ren). Some of it has become immediately applicable, while most is yet to be employed.
This book has helped me to see the Biblical design of child and parent, authority and submission. It has shown me that I am a parent because God made me a parent and gave me authority over my child. I must exercise that authority to glorify God and for the benefit of my child, no just for my own pleasure (proud of an obedient son) or comfort (tired of screaming).
The main thrust of the book, on the above biblical foundation, is a parenting approach that is heart-orieneted, not just behavior-oriented. Because we humans do what we do because we think what we think because we want what we want, stopping a child from crying is not the whole story. Wondering why my son is crying incessantly makes me wish I could explore the depths of his heart desires now, but that will wait.
