Football in an Arena

So, I went and saw the Iowa Barnstormers with by bro-in-law last week in the newly revamped Arena Football League.

It is obviously not normal football:

  • The field is 50yrds.

  • The sidelines are lined with padding- to touch is out of bounds.

  • There are only 8 men per team on the field.

  • The chain gang are on the field, avoiding being hit.

  • The field goal can't be wider than 8 ft.

  • The recievers begin in motion for like 15yrds, (sometimes not so) perfectly timed with the snap.

Good times, but the struggling small town trying to have big sports entertainment was somewhat irritating in its execution. All the pump-up efforts and audience-involving activities were distracting from the game and actually slowed it down.

The half-time mascot football game was quite entertaining, though.
