Book Report-- Rebel's Keep

Rebel's Keep M
by Douglas Bond

Historical Fiction

Rebel's Keep is the third book in the "Crown and Covenant" Series. The series covers approximately 40years of Scottish History in the 1600's, focusing on the Presbyterian Covenanters and their persecution under the English.

It seems to be written a little under my level, that is to say for a mid-teen audience. While it intorduces many deeply serious issues such as martyrdom, self-defense, rebellion against government, it carries simple and important themes of family unity, children obeying their parents, and Christ being preeminent in all life.

Favorite quote from the book: "Aye, and if iat (religious freedom) happened, I fear we might think too highly of our new government. And love for Christ and His Kirk (church) might go all to wrack on the shoals of civil allegiance."
