Movie Review-- Gladiator

Gladiator

Genre: Action/War/Drama

Summary: A fallen Roman general rises through the ranks of the gladiators for vengeance and to save Rome.

My grade: %90

Pros:

• Great story, albeit not true.
• Convincign performances all 'round- Russell Crowe, Djimon, Hounsou, Joaquin Phoenix.
• Awesome action- some of the best hand-to-hand combat in film.
• Amazing battle scene at the opening- rightly gruesome and intense with the infantry, cavalry, archers, and ballistics.

Cons:

• Though it obviously gave the setting for the plot, I really could have done without the psycho, warped brother emperor and I think the movie could have, too.
• Historical inaccuracies, such as what the respective emperors did, how they died, the location of Zucchabar, etc.
• The obligatory nod to Roman ancestor worship.
