Thoughts on Baby

Psalm 127:

4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

It is more than enough to say right now, six months away from the birth of our first child, that we certainly feel blessed to have even one arrow on the way to our quiver. The weight of the responsibility is sobering and so joyful at the same time. To those who know, no explanation is necessary. To those who don't, no explanation is possible.

On top of just us (or, more accurately, me) being blessed, this occasion contains incredible potentil for the world to be influenced. As arrows in a warriors hand, whatever children we have will have a long range effect that we ourselves could never reach. The imagery is awesome. Our children will meet and influence people we will never know. They may get to share Christ in a country we never considered. They and their children and their children will live into ages we will never see, hopefully flying true and carrying the same message of who our God is.
