Of the allegories I've read- Narnia, LOTR, The Circle, Pilgrim's Progress, Paradise Lost- I find myself happily left wanting.
Part of the glory of the allegory is in its limitations. No allegory is perfect, nor will one ever be. Although these stories amazingly represent deeper truths, it is the deeper truths that matter. And no allegory can fully display their glory. Aslan can never be as great as God. The ring is not the same as sin. We don't need Thomas Hunter, etc. No story can be as perfectly constructed as God's history of the ages. No character can be created to magnify the totality of who God is.
Praise God that there's something better than even these great stories.
