Book Report-- War Stories
War Stories M
by Col. Oliver North
Non-fiction
I have not read or seen any better coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom than this volume by embedded journalist, ex-Marine Col. North. Because it was published in 2003 and covers the initial 21-day invasion and a few weeks following, it is somewhat limited in
perspective. This, however, does not mean that the stories are worthless or the political commentary (limited as it is) is void in light of the mismanagement and political confusion that has followed the initial, remarkable victory.
The stories he tells engendered pride in my country I've not felt in a while (no thanks, Michelle Obama). Our soldiers are the best-trained, most disciplined soldiers in the world and the manner in which the war was conducted is nothing but honorable. It's too bad we haven't been hearing more of this in a while.
