Proverbs on Child Discipline

In preparation for our parenting role, my wife and I have been going through a small group study "A Case for Kids." Tedd Tripp presented an interesting commentary on Proverbs, which I will attempt to reproduce:

Proverbs says that if "the rod" is lacking,
  • The parent despises his child (13:24).
  • There will be no more hope for dsicipline (19:18).
  • Foolishness will be bound in the child's heart (22:15).
  • Children will not be wise (29:15).
  • Children will bring shame to their mother (29:15).
  • Parents will not be comforted in or delighted by their children (29:17).

Does this not define our soceity?
