Isaiah 2 and the United Nations

Is. 2:4 "...They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore...."

This is a statue outside of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. It was a gift from (ironically)the Soviet Union.

In a twist of the theme, this statue was presented by Luxembourg.

It's not an official motto, but this philosophy is written all over the United Nations. It's not a bad goal to have, but it's a bit presumptuous to consider oneself the means to this end.

Isaiah prophecies that such a state of the world will be the result of the administration of Christ, the King of Kings. Not only is the United Nations incapable of accomplishing what only the Son of God can do, but their intended means to that end will vary greatly from the means of Christ. Pacifism, universalism, "peace" missions, double-talk, "dialogue", humaitarian "aid", anti-discrimination seminars, and all that other junk are not the means of the Coming King.
The beginnig of verse 4, the home of this idealistic philosphy of the UN, actually reveals that this world peace will be the result of judgment.
4" He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will
beat their swords into plowshares..."
These proud nations and men who believe in themselves and the goodness of humanity will be shocked on that day.
11 "The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the
LORD alone will be exalted in that day."
22 Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
